Astronomy Night Astronomer


Shifts Available: Friday, April 25, 6:30-10:00pm


Description: Events occur at multiple sites throughout the Philadelphia area and professional and amateur astronomers are needed to help guide the public. Knowledge of astronomy and ability to engage the public as well as work a telescope is necessary.



Astronomy Night Event Support Volunteer


Shifts Available: Friday, April 25, 6:30-10:00pm


Description: Events occur at multiple sites throughout the Philadelphia area and will feature star gazing with professional and amateur astronomers. Volunteers are needed to assist with set-up and clean-up, to distribute and retrieve event evaluations, provide activity support, distribute PSF materials, and assist with crowd control (where necessary).



Cafés and Evening Programs Event Support Volunteer


Shifts Available: Daily throughout festival. Times and locations will vary by day


Cafés 


Description: Café events occur in bars and restaurants throughout the city. Typically, weekday events begin in the evening around 6pm and weekend café events run early to mid-afternoon. Volunteers are needed to assist with distributing and retrieving evaluations, occasional crowd control and to distribute PSF materials. Some cafés may need additional support with way finding and distributing materials for hands-on activities.


Signature Programs


Description: Signature programs offer experimental programming models that vary by day, time and location. These events take place in museums, theaters and parks and often have a high degree of production value. Volunteers are needed to assist with distributing and retrieving evaluations, occasional crowd control and to distribute PSF materials. In some cases these events will require support with set-up and tear-down, attendee check in, way finding, and ushering.  


Educator Workshops Event Support Volunteer


Shifts Available: Monday, April 28 – Friday, May 2, after school


Description: Educator workshops are professional development opportunities for area educators that will be held at various locations throughout the region. Volunteers are needed to assist with set-up and clean-up, manage the check-in process, distribute and retrieve event evaluations, provide workshop support, and distribute PSF materials.


Neighborhood Science After School Event Support Volunteer


Shifts Available: Monday, April 28 – Thursday, May 1, 3:00pm – 6:00pm


Description: Events occur after school in select branches of the Free Library of Philadelphia (FLP) throughout the city and will feature between 4 and 7 organizations providing hands-on activities. Volunteers are needed to assist with set-up and break down, to distribute and retrieve event evaluations, support activity providers and FLP staff with crowd control (where necessary), and to distribute PSF materials.

 

Science Carnival on the Parkway Volunteer


Shifts Available: Saturday, May 3, from 7:30 am through 6:00 pm

Description: An outdoor public carnival, taking place outside of The Franklin Institute around the Benjamin Franklin Parkway, the Science Carnival will provide opportunity for engagement and exchange between children, teens, families, and local scientists. Volunteers are needed before, during and after this exciting event.



Weekend Family Events Support Volunteer


Discovery Days


Shifts Available: Saturday, April 26 during the day-exact times TBD


Description: Events occur at four different sites throughout the Philadelphia area (Clark Park, Hunting Park, the Schuylkill Center, and Fox Chase Farm) and will feature hands-on science activities and entertainment. Volunteers are needed to assist with set-up and clean-up, to distribute and retrieve event evaluations, provide activity support, distribute PSF materials, and to assist with crowd control (where necessary).

  


Explorer Programs


Shifts Available: Sunday, April 27 from mid-morning through late afternoon


Description: Explorer programs provide audiences of all ages with behind-the-scenes access to local laboratories, wildlife refuges, nature centers, and other locations through interactive tours and unique experiences. Volunteers are needed to assist with way finding, distributing and retrieving evaluations, occasional crowd control, and to distribute PSF materials.
