Thank you for your interest in volunteering with the 2018 Science Festival!
Without the help of individual volunteers, it would be impossible to pull off a nine-day Festival with over 80 events. From helping with event evaluations to running hands-on activities to assisting with set-up and clean-up, volunteers play a crucial role in Festival operations. We need people who are willing to donate their time, energy, enthusiasm and expertise to our science celebration.

Citywide Star Party Astronomer
Shifts Available: Friday, April 20, evening
Events occur at multiple sites throughout the Philadelphia area and professional and amateur astronomers are needed (with equipment) to facilitate astronomical observation. Knowledge of astronomy and the ability to engage the public as well as work a telescope (or binoculars) is necessary.
Citywide Star Party Event Support Volunteer
Shifts Available: Friday, April 20, evening
Events occur at multiple sites throughout the Philadelphia area and will feature star gazing with professional and amateur astronomers. Volunteers are needed to assist with set-up and clean-up, distribute and retrieve event evaluations, provide activity support, distribute PSF materials, and assist with crowd control (where necessary).
Adult Programs Event Support Volunteer
Shifts Available: Friday, April 20 – Friday, April 27; times and locations vary by day
These adult-focused Science Festival events occur in bars, restaurants, museums and theaters throughout the city. Typically, weekday events begin in the evening around 6 pm and weekend events run early to mid-afternoon. Volunteers are needed to assist with distributing and retrieving evaluations, general event support, occasional crowd control, and distributing PSF materials. Some programs may need additional support with way finding and distribution of materials for hands-on activities.
Family Programs Weekend Event Support Volunteer
Shifts Available:
Saturday, April 21, times vary from mid-morning through late afternoon
Sunday, April 22, times vary from mid-morning through late afternoon
The Festival features an exciting lineup of weekend programs for families. From Science in the Park, to Tinker Lab, to a host of Be a Scientist Programs, almost everyone is sure to find something that inspires them to Get Nerdy. Volunteers are needed to assist with event set-up and break down, to distribute, retrieve, and facilitate event evaluations, to support activity providers and event staff with crowd control (where necessary), and to distribute PSF materials.
Weekday Event Support Volunteer
Shifts Available: Monday, April 23 – Friday, April 27; times and locations vary by day
Taking place at area libraries, historic playgrounds and in Independence National Historical Park, the Festival features an exciting lineup of engaging, hands-on, events for school groups, homeschool families and afterschool programs. Volunteers are needed to assist at these events with set-up and break down, to distribute, retrieve, and facilitate event evaluations, to support activity providers and event staff with crowd control (where necessary), and to distribute PSF materials.
Science Carnival Volunteer
Shifts Available: Saturday, April 28, all day event
An outdoor public science extravaganza, the Science Carnival will provide opportunity for engagement and exchange between children, teens, families, and local scientists. Volunteers are needed before, during and after this exciting event, which will once again take place at Penn’s Landing.
